Ten years ago, my niece suffered a stroke at birth that left her right hand impaired. On the rare occasions that I get to see her (she lives on the opposite coast) and she holds out her affected hand while we walk together, I think about how regular rehabilitation therapy enabled her to make this simple gesture. She received many of her early treatments at The Guidance Center in Somerville, MA, a nonprofit that provides therapeutic interventions for children, among other family-centered services.
As a way of giving back, I am participating in Kevin Miyazaki’s Collect.Give project, a wonderful platform for photographers to support the causes they believe in. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this affordable limited-edition print (taken after my niece’s 8th birthday party) will be donated to the Guidance Center.
